L'Albada

At the height of preparations for the Barcelona ’92 Olympic Games, Alba is finishing her degree in History at university and embarks on a piece of research that will take her further than she ever imagined... Guided by a dedicated professor and accompanied by another young historian searching tirelessly for his origins, she will delve into the darkest chapters of modern Spain and chart a path that leads from the Civil War to Olympic euphoria. Alba will have to confront the obstacles of a bureaucracy resistant to research, archives filled with mountains of paperwork, interwoven languages, and numerous figures and witnesses who cannot, or will not, remember… A family thread, a journey into the past that will bring to light betrayal, love, hatred, poetry, music and friendships that she can only keep alive if she dares to look back and remember.

L’Albada is the ambitious puzzle of a contemporary tragedy that speaks about us. From the Civil War and post-war years, it carries us from one time to another, from one landscape to another, from one Spain to another, until reaching the fervent Transition and the celebration of the Olympics ’92. L’Albada makes space for the pain and silence passed down from generation to generation, which have shaped the Spain we know today. It is the portrait of a crossroads that can only be overcome with the help of others. L’Albada rebels against oblivion, against fear and against silence.
