La Casa de Bernarda Alba

From Federico García Lorca, directed by Oriol Broggi

From January 28th 2027 at Teatre La Biblioteca

We felt a deep longing for Federico García Lorca. Ten years after the poetic flight of Bodas de Sangre (2017), we delve into Lorca’s harshest and most severe play. We present La Casa de Bernarda Alba with a cast of eight immensely strong actresses to tell this Drama de mujeres en los pueblos de España.

Synopsis

Bernarda Alba imposes the strictest mourning on her household following the death of the head of the family. She has the doors and windows sealed up, confining all the women of the house behind iron bars and thick limewashed walls. A dangerous tension silently grows among the five daughters, Angustias, Magdalena, Amelia, Martirio and Adela. La Poncia, who has served the household all her life, warns of it. The outside world, with its people and the murmur of day and night, weighs upon the women’s chests like the scorching summer heat bearing down from above. Out there are the men, and the songs, and the dry fields that they plough and that stretch everywhere. But there are also the rumours, and the sensual, taut shadow of the man who will bring disaster upon the household. Nothing and no one will be able to control the greater forces and vital impulses that drive Bernarda Alba’s household towards a universal tragedy of death and life.
