"There are truths that can only be revealed on the condition of being discovered"
Wajdi Mouawad
Incendis is the story of a young Lebanese woman from a rural area, illiterate and deeply in love with the young Nawal. Incendis is also the story of a wounded woman who learns to read and write following the fervent desire of her grandmother, who urges her to escape from poverty and darkness. It is the story of a mother who keeps silent, a heavy and long silence, and who one day decides never to speak again. It is the story of this woman's children, who, once she dies, are forced to search for and understand what their story is. Forced to look back, they find the truth of their origins and understand what burden their mother has carried for so many years. What they discover is a personal story but also the story of an entire country and culture.
Incendis is clearly a modern tragedy with classical reminiscences. Characters who fiercely struggle against a destiny that is against them. A modern adaptation of the Oedipus myth but intertwined with a complex and fierce world like today's.

A production of La Perla 29
I don't remember ever reading a work like Incendis! It has been for me, and I'm sure it will be for everyone, a discovery from top to bottom. Because it is a tremendously powerful work that speaks to you from very close and tears your heart apart as if it were one of the best works of Sophocles or Shakespeare. Slowly it penetrates you until you feel a pain and awakens a tremendous empathy within you. The works that truly impress us are usually classical texts, which come to us in different ways, because we have seen them, because they have been talked about, they have reached us through different channels, already linked to a legend, to a story of their own history. Incendis creates that sensation of legend without being one or transforms itself as we read it for the first time...
It's startling, electric, terribly current. Strikingly contemporary. Classic theater written today. This will be an important work for us, La Perla 29, and for all the spectators who come to see us, I'm sure of that!
